IPY-5 National Representatives Coordination Committee

The IPY-5 National Representatives Coordination Committee (NRCC) will support communication and cooperation between national IPY-5 planning efforts and the international coordination of IPY-5.

The committee connects national planning activities with the work of the IPY-5 Planning Group and the IPY-5 Executive Committee.

Purpose	The NRCC facilitates communication and cooperation between the various national IPY-5 planning efforts and links them with international IPY-5 coordination.
Operational period	The committee will be formed starting in the first half of 2026 and is expected to operate until December 2034.
Composition	The NRCC will be composed of: up to two representatives from each IPY-5 National Committee; one representative of each organisation in the IPY-5 Executive Committee — IASC, SCAR, WMO, and ISC; up to two members of the IPY-5 Interim Secretariat / International Coordination Office, serving ex officio.
Meeting frequency	The NRCC will meet twice a year. Most meetings are expected to take place online, although hybrid meetings may be organised alongside major Arctic or Antarctic conferences in the lead-up to IPY-5.
Leadership	The NRCC will have a Chair and two Vice-Chairs, elected from within the committee membership for a term of two years. The Chair and Vice-Chairs may be re-elected for one additional term.
Reporting	The Chair, or an alternate representative, will report to the biannual IPY-5 Planning Group meetings to ensure direct communication between international IPY-5 coordination and national activities.

Connection to National Committees

The NRCC provides a coordination space for representatives of IPY-5 National Committees and helps connect national activities with the broader international IPY-5 planning process.
